Matthew Tanczos, OLSH senior, was named a Semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Tanczos is one of approximately 16,000 students from across the United States to reach this level in the competition this year. To advance to the Finalist level of the competition, Tanczos will need to fulfill several requirements. The National Merit Corporation reports that they expect over 90 percent of Semifinalists to attain Finalist standing, and about half of those Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship and earn the Merit Scholar title.
Matthew Tanczos is president of OLSH’s chapter of the National Honor Society, is an OLSH Student Ambassador, and serves as a writing tutor in the OLSH Writing & Learning Center. He plays ice hockey and is alternate captain for the OLSH-Bishop Canevin co-op and has lettered and served as alternate captain in his junior year, as well. At last year’s OLSH Honors Convocation, Matthew was honored with awards for AP Calculus AB, AP Biology, and AP World History. He is a student pilot and is currently working on his private pilot license. Matthew is the son of David and Laura Tanczos, is a member of Our Lady of Grace Parish, and is a resident of Collier Township.
