OLSH is pleased to announce the addition of a new scholarship for rising sophomores, created in memory of Sr. Mary David Krasowski ‘38. Established by her biological sister, Regina Michalkiewicz, the Sr. Mary David Krasowski Endowed Scholarship honors Sr. Mary David’s commitment to the Felician-Franciscan Catholic education provided at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School. Sr. Mary David was a member of the Felician Sisters for 73 years until her death in 2011.
Sr. Mary David received her vocation calling from her own educational experience having been taught by Felician Sisters as a child in her parish school Assumption of Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Oil City. Her educational pursuits continued after she joined the congregation, and she earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Marquette University, as well as furthering her education by taking courses at Mt. Mercy College, Duquesne and Penn State Universities, and the Universities of Notre Dame, Kansas and New Hampshire. Sr. Mary David’s deep love of and commitment to Catholic education culminated in teaching for 37 years in various Felician schools.
In addition to her work in the classroom, Sr. Mary David collected and archived copious artifacts, historical resources, books, writing, and memorabilia of Felician heritage and history. She was recognized as preserving the Felician history with sacredness, having spent 60 plus years as “the keeper of [Felician] treasures.”
Two $1,000 Sr. Mary David Krasowski scholarships will be awarded each year to rising sophomores with demonstrated financial need, a level of understanding and appreciation of the Felician Core Values that sets him/her apart from their OLSH peers, and the ability to articulate the importance of those values in living a life of exceptional Christian leadership, stewardship, and service to all.
