Behind every mask is a smile: OLSH Love Walk for the Poor 2021

OLSH students, parents, staff, and friends gathered outside the OLSH Chapel for the group picture.  Mission Leader Jeff Hulbert jokingly reminded participants to smile as he got ready to take the picture. Though masks covered their faces, you could see the laughter from behind. Thirty-five participants, including Sr. M. Faith Balawejder and Sr. Melanie Marie Bajorek of the Coraopolis Convent, made their way out to the convent’s cemetery in the pouring rain.  With an umbrella in one hand and their donations in the other, the marchers stood behind the gravestones of the Sisters buried there.  OLSH Chaplain Fr. Bill Dorner led the group in a prayer service. While at the cemetery, Sr. M. Faith Balawejder reminded everyone that Sr. Louise was someone who was dedicated to the poor and always wanted others to have fun.  While this event is to keep in mind those who are going through some tough times, it was also a day for people to come together and celebrate their communities and enjoy their time together.  “As I walked ahead of the group to take pictures, it made me smile to hear all the conversations and laughter from the participants,” commented Hulbert.  “It was good to see that, even with the poor weather, so many came out to join us for this momentous event and donated so many items.”
