Don Militzer, Head Coach of the OLSH football team, has spent the spring and summer working with his players to instill respect, discipline, a strong work ethic, and confidence. He continually stresses the importance of representing OLSH football on and off the field, as well as in the classroom, to his team. He is keenly aware of the role that teachers and staff members play in the development of these young men, and asked that his players take the opportunity to thank those who have helped them grow during their time at OLSH.
As such, each member of the team chose a faculty or staff member who they look up to, or who has been a positive influence in their lives, to personally present their jersey to. The boys walked around the school on Thursday morning and distributed their jerseys, asking that each recipient wear it to school on Friday, September 9th to show support for the team ahead of their first home game the following evening.
Faculty and staff were given a dress down day so that they could comfortably wear their jerseys with jeans on Friday. The O-Zone packed the stands on Saturday night, dressed in all black to follow their weekly theme (blackout), and cheered the Chargers on to a 28-13 win over Clairton.
