In any situation, the best time to decide how to respond is NOT during a crisis, but beforehand. With this in mind, OLSH invited a speaker from Live Ready Academy to join the senior class on Thursday morning to discuss personal safety before they graduate from high school. The program, which featured physical training in addition to a lecture, left seniors feeling prepared for uncomfortable situations that they may encounter throughout their lives.
The three primary areas of focus were:
- Situational awareness – how to recognize warning signs
- How to diffuse situations that arise
- Personal physical tactics for self-protection
Seniors watched a presentation on safety tactics and how to recognize potentially dangerous situations before heading to the AAC to practice physical self defense moves. The presenter, Sam Rosenberg, demonstrated moves with volunteers first, before students broke off into groups to practice on their own. Sam explained in detail why these moves are impactful and how to perform them properly to ensure your safety while also not causing too much harm to your attacker.

The College Safe program, offered by OLSH and provided by Live Ready Academy, LLC, is overseen by Mr. Sam Rosenberg.
