On October 17, 2024, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School (OLSH) welcomed Pittsburgh Steelers legend and Vietnam veteran Rocky Bleier to campus for an inspiring installment of our speaker series. Through his story of courage, resilience, and dedication, Mr. Bleier exemplified the core values we work to live out at OLSH.
During his talk, Mr. Bleier shared how his 12 years of Catholic education, followed by four years at the University of Notre Dame, shaped him into the man he is today. He emphasized how his faith and the values instilled in him during those formative years helped him persevere through life's greatest challenges, including his recovery from severe injuries sustained in Vietnam. His journey from the battlefields to four Super Bowl championships with the Pittsburgh Steelers serves as a powerful reminder of the strength that comes from faith, hard work, and community support.
After his talk, Mr. Bleier took time to personally engage with nearly every guest, creating lasting memories for all who attended. In a particularly special moment, many guests had the chance to try on all four of his Super Bowl rings and take photos wearing them. His warmth, humility, and willingness to connect individually with each person made a deep impression on attendees, underscoring his commitment to service and community—values we cherish at OLSH.
As we continue our speaker series, we are grateful for the opportunity to welcome individuals like Rocky Bleier, whose lives demonstrate the values that are at the heart of our Catholic Felician Franciscan tradition. We look forward to the next event in the series, featuring Justin Fatica on December 5th, and continuing to inspire our community to live lives of service, compassion, and leadership.
