2017-2018 School Year Begins with Mass

Monday, August 28 marked the first full day of classes for all students at OLSH. While the upperclassmen began last Wednesday and the freshmen enjoyed a day to themselves on Thursday, everyone came together for the first time today.  As is OLSH tradition, the school year kicked off with a full-school Mass.  Fr. Frank Kurimsky, OLSH Chaplain presided, commenting on how this Mass was such a perfect way to start off the new school year thinking about God and faith.  Fr. Frank encouraged the students to dedicate this year to God, and to let God walk them through this year, helping them to be the best person they can be.

After Mass, the faculty and staff stood in front of the student body and pledged the OLSH Faculty/Staff Creed.  Adopted in 2016, the creed outlines the special commitment OLSH teachers, administration, and staff members have for their students.

OLSH Faculty/Staff Creed

As a member of the faculty and staff at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School, I believe that I have been called by God to manifest the Person of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Faith to the students entrusted to my care, and to teach and model the Core Values preserved for us by the Felician Sisters.

I believe young people have a God-given right to know the Truth, and to develop themselves fully as graced human beings, and my companionship with them calls me to help them deepen their faith.

I will foster in my students, and in myself, a loving respect for the dignity of all and a commitment to justice and peace. My work is a trust to create an environment of educational excellence, respect for our unique traditions, and a commitment to personal honesty and integrity. I will maintain a responsible and encouraging sense of discipline as hallmarks in the formation of good Christian citizens.

In keeping with the mission of the Catholic Church and the values and spirit of the Felician Sisters, and in union with Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, I seek to be an instrument that leads OLSH students to the gift of salvation, which God intends as the ultimate destination of our life journeys.
