The Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Chapel was ablaze with the colors of purple and gold this past Sunday. Over 200 student athletes and their families joined the Sisters for Mass and to celebrate the Blessing of the Fall Student Athletes. A tradition started by Mission Leader and assistant football coach Jeff Hulbert, student athletes and their families are invited to Sunday Mass with the Felician Sisters in the OLSH Chapel at the beginning of each competitive season for a special blessing. During his homily, Fr. Sam Esposito reminded those in attendance that the focus of the Gospel of Mark consists of the miracles Jesus performed and he asked the congregation to reflect on how the Cross continues to heal them in their lives today. The Mass ended with a special blessing for the student athletes who play football, girls volleyball, golf, soccer, cheer, and run cross country by Fr. Sam. When Mission Leader Jeff Hulbert thanked Sr. Virginia Marie Klawinski for her help with the Mass, her response was simply, "It is my pleasure to serve". Jeff commented, “It is always a special moment to celebrate Mass with the Sisters. They are not only the foundation of OLSH, but they continue to give us inspiration and hope for the future of our school.”
