Thank you for your interest in volunteering at OLSH!
In order to protect our students and maintain compliance with the policies of the Diocese of Pittsburgh and the mandates of the state of Pennsylvania, we have implemented a screening process for all employees and volunteers who may come into contact with our students. This process is described below.
Steps in the Safe Environment Compliance Process for Volunteers
Please note that new items have been added to the compliance checklist as a result of recent changes in state law. Therefore, you may be required to complete new steps in order to remain compliant. If you are unsure whether or not you are in compliance with the Safe Environment Policy, please contact Assistant Principal and Safe Environment Coordinator Shawn Holup at (412) 262-6422 or [email protected].
If you have not already done so, register with the Safe Environment Database.
The online application can be found on the Diocese of Pittsburgh website at https://www.eappsdb.com/Login.asp?ORGZ_KEY=39. The passcode for the Database is PROTECT. By completing this step, your Criminal Record Check will automatically be run and the results will be sent to OLSH. (If you have already registered with the Safe Environment Database, please add OLSH as a site.)

Complete the Protecting God’s Children Workshop
The Protecting God’s Children Workshop can be taken online or in person. Once you have completed the workshop, you will receive a certificate. Please send a copy to OLSH. You will not be listed as compliant until the date of the workshop has been entered.
To register for the online option, you must go to
www.virtus.org and click on “Registration”. Fill out the registration information and then you will be able to choose a session. The online session is at the bottom of the list and is available in English and in Spanish. A listing of live Protecting God's Children workshops and their locations can be found at

Obtain your FBI Fingerprint Record or sign the FBI Fingerprint Waiver.
All volunteers must have an FBI Fingerprint Record or a signed FBI Fingerprint Waiver on file.
If the volunteer has lived within the state of Pennsylvania for 10 years or more, they may sign an
FBI Fingerprint Waiver form instead of getting their Fingerprint Report from the FBI. Click
here to download an FBI Fingerprint Waiver.
